  7. INTRODUCTION:
  8.  
  9. Graphics Developer With Slide Show (GDWSS) is an application 
  10. designed to help you browse, search, find, create, view, 
  11. enhance, convert, and print your picture files. You can crop 
  12. it, adjust the shading, size, orientation, placement on the 
  13. page, and aspect ratio.  You can even reduce the color 
  14. content and convert color images to gray scale images for 
  15. laser printing.  It works with many different kinds of 
  16. picture file types such as TIFF, GIF, JPEG, PICT, Raster, 
  17. Targa, Postscript, Bitmap, and more.

  19. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:

  21.  * Microsoft Windows 3.1 and DOS 5.3 or higher
  22.  * A hard disk and a mouse
  23.  * 80386/16 MHz CPU, 486/33 MHz or higher recommended
  24.  * A minimum of 4 Meg of RAM; 8 Meg recommended
  25.  * Approximately 1.3 Meg of hard disk space
  26.  * To edit images, you'll need Windows PaintBrush or 
  27.    another graphics editor program
  28.  * GDWSS supports all Windows graphics-compatible printers

  56. INSTALLING GDWSS:
  57.  
  58. If you received one compressed file:
  59.  
  60.   Unzip GDWSS.ZIP or run GDWSS.EXE from DOS or Windows File 
  61.   Manager to expand the files.  
  62.  
  63. If you received a disk with all of the compressed files
  64. or after expanding the files:
  65.  
  66.   Run SETUP.EXE which will uncompress the files and install 
  67.   GDWSS to the default or selected directory and create icons 
  68.   in Program Manager.
  69.

  101. GDWSS is written in Visual Basic Ver 3.0.  You will need 
  102. the runtime DLL for Visual Basic: VBRUN300.DLL.  This may
  103. not come with your copy but can be downloaded from most

  114. GETTING STARTED:
  115.  
  116. To begin using Graphics Developer With Slide Show double click 
  117. on the GDWSS icon in Program Manager created by GDWSS SETUP.EXE 
  118. or double click on GDWSS.EXE in File Manager.  
  119.  
  120. Graphics Develeper and Slide Show are combined into one program.
  121. You can create two seperate icons in Program Manager, one to 
  122. start Slide Show directly and one to start Graphics Developer 
  123. directly.  To have the Slide Show form come up first use 
  124. "GDWSS.EXE /SS" in the command line.  To have Graphics Developer 
  125. come up first use "GDWSS.EXE" or "GDWSS.EXE /DEV" in the command 
  126. line.  You can also follow GDWSS.EXE with a path and file name 
  127. and Graphics developer will be first to start with that picture 
  128. file.  See GDWSS.HLP for more information on using GDWSS.
  129.  
  130. TROUBLE SHOOTING TIPS:
  131.  
  132. 1. Format conversion problems - some formats will not convert to 
  133. others.  Try reducing the number of colors, changing palettes, 
  134. or going to greyscale.  For example to convert from .BMP to .JPG 
  135. or be able to use the FILTER functions, first convert the .BMP 
  136. to Class "True Color" or "Grayscale", then you can use FILTERS 
  137. and /or "Save As" with a .JPG extension.
  138.  
  139. 2. If you want to convert your pictures so you can edit them with 
  140. Windows Paint Brush first make sure you convert the image class 
  141. to Palette, if it isn't already, using the Development Toolbar 
  142. "Convert" option.  Then use SaveAs .PCX or .BMP no compression.
  143.  
  144. 3. If you bring up the .JPG files you received with GDWSS and 
  145. they look grainy or off color,  you can try to load a different 
  146. display driver with more colors and/or a higher resolution.  You 
  147. do this by running C:\WINDOWS\SETUP.EXE.
  148.  
  149. 4. Using full screen slide show with icons from the file list may 
  150. not work correctly if the "Keep Existing Graphics" options is 
  151. set.  Turn this option off (located on the setup form) and try 
  152. again. 
  153.  
  154. 5. Gallery printing may not work with some HP printers.  If you 
  155. have this problem, let me know and I will send you an update when 
  156. the fixes are made to the HGC.VBX.
  157.  
  158. 6. If you get an error during installation about not being able
  159. to load DDEMD.DL_, don't worry about it.  You already have it
  160. in your system.  Click OK to continue the intallation.
  161.  
  162. 7. Convert problems with ValuePoint - I have found that the IBM 
  163. ValuePoint 466DX2 will not complete conversions.  I have had other 
  164. problems with this model using MicroFocus compiled programs using 
  165. floating point arithmetic.  There is no solution as of this date.
  166.  
  167. 8. GDWSS uses a lot of system resources.  If it is running too 
  168. slow or graphics are taking too long to load, your system may not 
  169. have enough horsepower to run this application.
  170.  
  171. 9. Memory Problems - Even at 8 Meg you can run into memory 
  172. problems with this application since it is graphics intensive.  
  173. 12 Meg or higher seems to work best.  If you have 8 Meg or less, 
  174. limit the number of thumbnails you create and display.  Do not 
  175. do a Find Files using a pattern of *.* which searches the entire 
  176. hard drive.

  179. SHAREWARE/REGISTRATION:
  180.  
  181. Graphics Developer With Slide Show is a shareware program.  
  182. You may use it for a trial period of up to 30 days.  After that 
  183. time, you must register your copy of the program.  The 
  184. registration fee is $25.  Registered users will receive the very 
  185. latest version of the program and are entitled to full online 
  186. support.
  187.  
  188. To register your copy: run the program and when the About form 
  189. is displayed, click on the Register button and a registration 
  190. form will be displayed.  Click on the Print Topic button to 
  191. print out a registration form.  Fill out the registration form 
  192. and mail it with your payment to the address on the form.
  193.  
  194. Feel free to copy and distribute the unregistered version of
  195. GDWSS.ZIP, unmodified.

  200. Plans for future releases include:

  202.     1.  Adding a photo album thumbnail cataloging feature 
  203.     2.  Adding a "Screen Capture" utility
  204.     3.  Adding TWAIN-compatible scanning functions

  210. LICENSE INFORMATION:

  212. Each copy of the program may be used on only one computer at any 
  213. one time.  If used on a network system, each user is considered 
  214. to be using a distinct copy of the licensed program whether or 
  215. not he or she is actually using it.

  217. SKISOFT, Inc. warrants that for a period of ninety days 
  218. from the date of delivery of the licensed program, the program, 
  219. if unmodified by the Licensee, will perform in substantial 
  220. conformity with the user documentation.  SKISOFT, Inc. does not 
  221. warrant that the licensed program is free from coding errors.  
  222. Any modifications to the licensed program shall thereafter be 
  223. licensed AS IS.

  225. The above warranty does not apply to the extent that any
  226. failure of the licensed program to perform as warranted is caused 
  227. by the licensed program being (1) not used in accordance with the 
  228. user documentation, or (2) modified by any person other than
